Behind the scenes of the Research on Social Stress website are leading researchers in the area of stress and well-being. Our site provides a forum for researchers to present their work and a place for community members to add their voices and knowledge.
On the Research on Social Stress website you will find research dedicated to the social, interpersonal and biological aspects of stress. Our research involves the identification of the effects of coping strategies and resources that may serve as buffers to social and personal stressors, as a way to facilitate the well-being of individuals. In addition, we are investigating the role that appraisal and coping processes confer on either the resistance or vulnerability to illness (e.g., major depression) in the face of stressful events. In the sphere of physiology we are interested in stress assessment and the identification of psychological, biological and environmental factors that contribute to the development of major depression, dysthymia (low-grade, chronic depression), anxiety, posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and burnout.
The impact of stress on our lives is multifaceted and for this reason our research covers a broad range of areas. At the Research on Social Stress website we are committed to providing leading edge research on stress and bringing this information to the larger community. We see our website as a place for Canadians and researchers to meet and create a dialogue on the impact of stress on our everyday lives – we look forward building this relationship with you.
